Using Icc Profiles on Mac OS 9.x
If you copy a profile to Systems Folder/ColorSync Profiles, and Photoshop is not able to locate it, you need to set the type and creator tags for the profile file. The Type/Creator needs to be PROF/SYNC. These tags can be set using the standard Mac Colorsync Extras utilities. Alternatively, you can use a third party program such as the Profile Associator.
Mac OS 9 format profiles are available for the labs using our custom printer profiling service. These profiles do not require any special conversion to use. The profiles are in Stuffit archives (free expander available here). To preserve data integrity, the files within the archives are encoded in BinHex format. Our apologies for this belt-and-suspenders approach, but it has proved the only way to reliably get the full file information transferred reliably. Depending on your system configuration, Stuffit may fully extract the profiles. If you are left with files ending in ".hqx", drop these BinHex archives on Stuffit a second time. You'll get files with a ".icc" extension that are the actual printer profiles.
To install the profiles on your system, you can either drop the profile on your System Folder and it will automatically be installed in the ColorSync folder, or you can open the System Folder and manually place the profiles in the ColorSync Profiles folder.
